LEARN ABOUT THE 2004/2005 BIOFACH AMÉRICA LATINA PROJECT

First Phase
The BioFach- Brazil Project was carried out in 2002 and 2003, when over 40 seminars were held in Brazil , as well as the first BioFach Conference in Latin America . These seminars played an important role in the development of the Brazilian domestic market for organic products, identifying opportunities and obstacles for the organic sector in Brazil .

The BioFach-Brazil 2003 Project was supported by Nürnberg Global Fairs/ BioFach as the leader and the body responsible for the project, DEG as a sponsor, IFOAM as a supporting party, Planeta Orgânico (Brazil) and Mercabio (Germany) as the executing companies. These same partners have come together again in order to carry out the new stage: the BioFach Latin America Project.

Second Phase
The main objective of the 2004/2005 Latin America Project will be to establish an organic and natural food market in Latin American countries, by creating a network for economic trans-national cooperation. For that purpose, the following partial objectives are pursued:

To encourage awareness of the subject "organic food and natural products" among specialists and consumers (public institutions, food industry, trade, consumer protection organizations).

To expand organic farming in Latin American countries, especially in the regions in which agriculture is in the hands of small farmers.

To promote the insertion of ecological products in the markets of Latin American countries, with emphasis on family production.

To raise the added value of organic and natural products (organic products processed for domestic markets).

To intensify inter-regional trade in organic food and natural products, as well as to stimulate the exchange of experiences among Latin American countries.

To encourage international economic cooperation through the transfer of knowledge, training, and facilitating contacts.
